As the year draws to a close, we look back with full hearts at the moments that shaped our group – the quiet milestones, the muddy weekends, the laughter drifting across fields, and the steady spirit that carries us through every season.
January began with a milestone that meant more than most: one of our young people, who joined us as a Beaver Scout, officially turned 18 and stepped into adulthood as a leader.
In March, a handful of our Explorers set off on their Practice DofE Gold Expedition. Three days of hills, heavy bags, shared determination, and that familiar mix of aching legs and proud smiles. They returned a little tired, a little wiser, and ready for the challenges still to come.

May brought the magic of Cub Camp at Fox Coverts (planned and led by one of our Young Leaders) – a weekend of campfires, late-night whispers, and young faces glowing with the thrill of adventure. Not long after, at the start of June, our shooting team headed out for their national competition, camping for two nights and going up against Scout teams from across the UK. They represented our group with pride, and came home bonded in a way only a muddy, sleepless competition weekend can achieve.
We then attended the Cole Valley South District Camp. It was here that Andrew “Akela” Head received his 5 Years’ Service Award and Kelly “Q” Astle-Williams received her Commemorative Service Award – a moment that honoured the patience, dedication, and heart they bring to our young people week after week.

By August, our Explorers were back on the trail, completing their full DofE Gold Expedition. Four long days defined by teamwork, resilience, and those quiet victories that stay with you long after the blisters have gone.
And through all of it, every camp, every challenge, every evening spent in a draughty hall or a sunlit field – our group grew stronger, braver, and more connected.
So, we close 2025 with pride, joy, and deep gratitude for everyone who has been with us this year.
Here’s to the adventures behind us, and all the ones still waiting on the horizon.
