We meet Tuesdays from 4:30pm to 5:15pm
Ready, set, go: be part of the youngest section in Scouts!
Squirrels helps 4 to 6 year-olds grow and learn through fun games and activities. We’re preparing to open our doors and invite our first drey of Squirrels to the newest branch of the Scouts family tree later this year. We’ll be giving our Squirrels the opportunity to have lots of fun while achieving all sorts of things they never knew were possible.
Our incredible volunteers will help Squirrels take part in amazing games and activities and learn all sorts of things, sometimes without even realising, to achieve anything they put their mind to.
As a Squirrel, your young person will have the opportunity to try all sorts of new things, earn some amazing badges and awards, make new friends, become curious about the world around them, and help get themselves ready for the amazing adventures ahead of them at school and Beavers.
Having seen how much fun Squirrels are having in other dreys around the UK, we’re really excited to be helping to grow the Scouting movement, and can’t wait to welcome our first cohort of Squirrels later this year!
Meet Roly & Happy
Simon and Rachel are our Squirrel Scout Leaders, they develop and deliver our Squirrel programme
Simon, known to the Squirrels as Roly, brings warmth, enthusiasm, and plenty of fun to every session. With a passion for helping young people discover the world around them, he loves planning creative activities that spark curiosity and imagination.
Roly believes that Squirrels should feel free to try new things, make friends, and grow in confidence - all while having a great time together.

Rachel, or Happy as the Squirrels know her, is always ready with a smile and a bright idea. She enjoys creating adventures big and small, from storytelling and crafts to outdoor games and new challenges.
Happy’s focus is on making sure every child feels included, valued, and excited to come back each week. Her positive energy and encouragement help Squirrels achieve more than they ever thought possible.

We work towards the Chief Scouts Acorn Award
Squirrels complete their challenge awards to earn the top award for the sectionDuring their time in the Squirrel Drey, young people will be given the chance to explore lots of fun activities, go on local adventures, and take part in exciting sessions and experiences. With Squirrels, the focus is on encouraging children to join in, try new things, and do their best, rather than meeting a fixed set of standards.
Our main goal is to support each Squirrel on their journey towards the Chief Scout’s Acorn Award - the highest award for members of the Squirrel Drey - by helping them complete their challenge awards and activity badges.
Earning the challenge awards and activity badges
Our focus, during a Squirrel’s time in the Drey, is on giving them the chance to discover, explore, and grow while working towards their badges. The programme is built around fun, friendship, adventure, and learning new skills – always encouraging curiosity about the world around them.
Earning a badge is a big achievement for a Squirrel. It may mean trying something new, working as a team, or taking on little challenges both in the Drey and at home.
We support our Squirrels every step of the way by planning exciting activities, games, and experiences that help them build confidence, creativity, and a sense of adventure. Along their journey, each Squirrel will also be given personal challenges to help them shine in their own unique way before moving up to Beavers.
Additional activity awards
We also celebrate the progress and effort our Squirrels make outside of their time in the Drey. Many of the badges they can earn give them the chance to share their achievements from hobbies and interests at home, while also encouraging them to try new activities and discover fresh passions along the way.

How old can you be as a Squirrel Scout?
We welcome all young people between 4 and 6 years of ageWhen it comes to age, we follow the guidelines set by Scouts but keep a flexible approach. Squirrels is designed for children aged 4 to 6, and we’ll always chat with you about the best time for your child to join, making sure they feel comfortable, ready, and excited for the adventure ahead. Every child is different, and we want their first step into Scouting to be a positive one.
When it’s time to move on to Beavers, we’ll also work with you to find the right moment. Sometimes this means moving up a little earlier or later, depending on your child’s needs, their confidence, and the friendships they’ve built in the Drey. We want the move to feel natural, so they can continue to grow without losing that sense of belonging.
If your child isn’t quite 4 yet, don’t worry – just get in touch. We can discuss reserving a place for them, so when the time comes, they’ll be ready to join in the fun and begin their Squirrel Scouts journey.
